My Mae Mae (click here to read her obituary) passed away last Saturday evening at 8:55 p.m. I'm so thankful I was with some really funny women to help me get through it. Beth, your encouraging words on our walk after dinner meant sooooo much to me. Thank you.
She was 91 years old. She was a single mother most of her adult life.
Don't ever say anything bad about any of her grands or you will be in for a hurting. She defended us to the very end!!!
She was one of 12 children. She thought cats were evil. Like the devil. I'm serious. My cats always loved to torture her for that. They have a sixth sense, you know.
She is who I get my red hair from.
You can see her face in my daughter, Lauren. She always had a sweet spot in her heart for Lauren. She said she reminded her of her older sister who they called "Sug" (Pronounced like Sugar without the "ar").
I am singing at her funeral. I'm going to do a song from MercyMe called, "Finally Home". I'm planning to alter the words slightly to incorporate Mae Mae into the song. It's going to be hard, but I'll get through it.
She lived a long life and I know her legacy lives on in me and my children. We miss you already Mae Mae.

I am so glad that we were there for you this weekend. I am sorry about your MaeMae...but I cannot imagine having to sing. I'll be thinking about you this weekend.
Oh Melissa, like Kat said so glad we were able to be there for you.
And I'll be thinking of you this weekend......have a safe trip.
Prayers!
hey Melissa,
Y'all be safe. I know that you will do a wonderful job singing for her. Your voice is beautiful and I'm sure that MaeMae can hear you and will love it. Blessings.
That is the perfect song to sing! I thought about it all through the comments people made about my nephew's death. Sounds like Mae Mae gave you a rich heritage and it will always be part of you and Lauren, that is a huge blessing and something to be so thankful for.
What a beautiful post. Your Mae Mae sounds like a wonderful woman. And I can definitely see the resemblance between her, you and your daughter.
You will do great. Safe travels.
beautiful post, melissa.
